Vancouver Island is home to a storied legacy of underground dance music—artists and decades of events that connect our city to the scenes and sounds of the world. Not world beat, world beasts! I'm talking party animals. Lord knows this town is famous all over the world for its parties. Don't believe me? Ask any of the DJs who've visited. Except maybe that guy who spaced on mushrooms, you know who I mean? I doubt he remembers his last visits. Whatever. The threads run deep and, though these connections are fascinating, they're not nearly as important as what they're made of: the music ! Which in the mammal lexicon, may mean anything from deep house to dub techno and beyond, though categories for music are boring and the criteria from which our DJs are pulling focus more on music being good than it fitting into any silly box. Don't say damn, say what! HOUSE MUSIC ALL NIGHT LONG !
mammal dance is borne of the need for simplicity. No egos (or reptiles!) allowed! Just good sound (as in, good enough for the Loft is good enough for us), good friends, and really good music. ok... maybe a few reptiles are cool, we can't say no to them all, even if they do that crazy lizard dance. The Lizard Dance is forbidden!! So are bright lights.
We're doing our best to go old school with a long opening time - 10pm - 4am (we'd go longer, but it's the best we could do short of camping).
Theo said it best - most important ingredients for a good night of dancing: 1. the people, 2. the music, 3. the sound.
We're keeping the price down so all you fowls can enjoy. Because you are number 1.
Yes dude, there is a bar. Yes, there is vinyl. There's also lots of bathrooms. But that's not the point.
