One of our favourite DJs, Mike Shannon is in town for a special all nighter we don't want to miss. To be sure we're in the right mindstate, we've decided to get prepped with a heavy album by one of Mike's oldest friends and colleagues. Over thirty years these two stinkers have been pals, touring, jamming and generally giving Canadians a hell of a reputation around the globe. Starting the night with Deadbeat's 2002 Wild Life Documentaries feels like a perfect amuse bouche. BBC called it 'A very cool release for you crazy dubheads out there.'
Another reviewer said 'It's not flashy, but it's deep. Like ASMR for people who hate ASMR but love dub' and 'Feels like the background noise to some slow-motion chase through a rainy European city where nobody talks, they just stare out windows and smoke clove cigarettes'
We will be playing some select songs from Deadbeat's enormous catalogue - 30 albums! - before slipping into a deeper listen with Wild Life Documentaries at roughly 8pm, and we'll wind down with more Deadbeat music while we lace up our dancing shoes to get ready for power hour with Mike.
Special note - I spoke with Deadbeat about this listening session and he was thrilled and offered to call in to introduce it.... now, this is would mean a 5am call from Scott (Deadbeat's off stage name). I don't want to hold him to this and therefore won't promise it will happen... but.... crazier things have happened.
